The short answer
In Singapore, eyebrow embroidery is the everyday name for any semi-permanent brow treatment. Microblading is one technique within it: hair-like strokes made by hand with a fine blade. So microblading is a type of eyebrow embroidery, but not all eyebrow embroidery is microblading.
The main brow techniques
| Technique | How it's done | Look |
|---|---|---|
| Microblading | Hand tool with a row of fine needles cuts thin strokes | Crisp hair strokes |
| Machine hair strokes | A fine single needle on a PMU machine draws each stroke | Soft, natural hair strokes |
| Misty, powder or ombre brows | Machine shading built up in tiny dots | Soft, filled-in, makeup-like finish |
| Combination or bespoke | Strokes at the front, shading through the body and tail | Natural front, defined tail |
Which suits your skin?
Oily skin or large pores tends to blur fine strokes over time, so shaded or combination brows usually heal and age better. Dry or normal skin generally holds fine strokes well. Very sparse brows often look best with some shading behind the strokes so they don't look see-through. Mature or thin skin needs a gentle approach; machine work allows finer control over depth.
Which suits your style?
If you never wear brow makeup and want to look like you were born with fuller brows, choose hair strokes. If you fill your brows in every morning and like that look, misty brows will feel familiar. If you're somewhere in between, a bespoke combination is usually the answer.
Healing: what to expect
Whatever the technique, brows look darker and sharper for the first days, then go through a flaky phase. Some areas may look patchy or too light mid-way through healing; this is normal. The true result shows once the skin has fully settled, which is when a refinement visit is usually booked.
Questions to ask any studio
- Can I see healed results, not just fresh ones?
- Which technique do you recommend for my skin type, and why?
- How do you choose the pigment colour, and how will it age on me?
- Is a touch-up included or charged separately?
- What can you do over my old brow embroidery, if I have some?
How FYRS approaches brows
We offer hair-stroke, misty and bespoke brows, each mapped to your facial structure and natural hair growth. The aim is always brows that move like real hair rather than a stamped-on shape.
Quick answers
Is microblading the same as eyebrow embroidery?
Microblading is one type of eyebrow embroidery. In Singapore, “eyebrow embroidery” is the umbrella term for semi-permanent brows, whether strokes are made with a hand blade or a machine.
Which lasts longer, microblading or misty brows?
Shaded styles such as misty, powder or ombre brows generally hold up longer than fine hair strokes, especially on oily skin. Longevity always depends on your skin, sun exposure and aftercare.
Which looks more natural?
Hair strokes look most like real brow hair up close. Misty brows look like softly filled brows with makeup. Many people choose a combination.
